With over 20 years’ experience in the world of EFL, Mediterranean Training are your Online Teacher Trainers offering a range of teacher training courses. We are recognised by the ELT Council of Malta and our courses count as official CPD hours.

Experience

Our head teacher trainer is Richard Twigg. Richard set up and managed the first IDP IELTS test centre in Italy and the first CD IELTS test centre in Europe. Now a freelance teacher and teacher trainer, Richard delivers webinars for Macmillan, ELI Nat Geo as well as the ELT Council Malta.

Richard has lived and worked in the UK, Malta and is currently based in Turin, Italy. He worked for International House as a Director of Studies, Academic Manager and Director. He took his CELTA in 2005 in York in the UK and in 2007 he was one of the candidates on the first Delta course in Malta.

In July this year, I attended the course entitled ‘ Developing Effective Communication Skills for Customer-Facing Roles’. The course proved invaluable in helping me to plan a similar course that was being delivered by my language school, on behalf of the Malta
Tourism Authority. Richard’s information gave me the confidence to plan, prepare, write and successfully deliver a series of 8 modules to employees from a variety of tourism sectors, ranging from hotels to visitor attractions and wedding venues. More recently, I have participated in a training module entitled ‘Hybrid & Flipped Learning’. The Flipped Learning course material was particularly useful in helping me to deliver coursebook content to mixed ability/aged classes, while allowing me to support them in working in their preferred style. I have found all the training experiences with Richard extremely useful and very interesting, not to mention invaluable in adding another string to my bow as an EFL teacher.

I attended the Flipped and Hybrid Learning Teacher Training Programme which was a 6 hour training session plus a one hour best practice session. The programme covered many aspects of teaching which are invaluable for both face-to-face and online. I particularly liked the session on understanding and using flipped lessons and found the session introducing the various online tools available very useful and will certainly be using them in future lessons.

Richard has a pleasant, laid back approach as a trainer which put everyone at ease and encouraged participation and contribution of ideas, comments and questions. A very useful and enjoyable programme.

Just completed Richard Twigg's course on Flipped Lessons and Hybrid Lessons and enjoyed every minute. Both topics are covered in depth enough to allow you to see the scope and the course is very much hands-on. Richard guides rather than teaches and the relaxed format allows for group interaction and input.

The Flipped Lesson, in principle, is where the students do the prep at home and exercises and corrections are done in the classroom. Richard also introduces the tools available to enable us ( the teachers and the students ) to make this as interactive as possible.

The Hybrid Lesson where teaching is done face-to-face at the same time as online does require more technology but once again the links are there for us to see and experience. Hybrid learning may require some more input from the schools themselves but this course shows us the possibilities of putting this type of teaching into practice.

While the hours are set, the course, itself, is very flexible and time is taken to answer all and any questions. I thought I would be out of my league but found myself drawn in by Richard and my colleagues alike.
